Four young people in chef hats and uniforms stand with bicycles, some holding balloons.

Twelve elementary students prepared their Favorite Afternoon Snack recipes at the annual Future Chefs competition held at Le Bistro at Sno-Isle TECH recently. Each future chef received a chef's coat and hat, an apron, a certificate, and a bucket of fun prizes. Students worked with adult mentors to make and display their snacks. The foods were judged by School Board President Kyle Kennedy, Superintendent Alison Brynelson and three district administrators. The following students won the grand prize, a bike and safety helmet, donated by Sodexo!

  • Fun Kid Food - Aubree Hernandez- Doggy Snack and Cat Drink
  • Healthiest recipe -Tre Wells- Shrimp Salad
  • Judges Choice - Lily Zakhary- Watermelon Sorbet
  • Most original recipe - Andres Benitez- Rainbow Energy Bites
Sponsored by Sodexo food services, Future Chefs is designed to help educate students about healthier eating habits. Fourth and fifth graders are encouraged to create recipes to submit to Nutrition Services with hopes of being selected to compete in the competition. This year, students from Challenger, Fairmount, Mukilteo, Olivia Park, Picnic Point, and Serene Lake elementary schools, were selected to compete in the event.

Congratulations to all future chefs for their culinary skills!
