ACES Big Picture Graduation Requirements

Below you will find the ACES Big Picture Graduation Requirements.  As we are building a program here at Big Picture, these requirements may change as the years progress.  We will keep this site updated as those changes are made.  At this time we are following the State Guideline for mastery based schools in Washington State.

Please remember:  ATTENDANCE contributes to academic success. 

 

 

  • Students are required to have 16 pieces of writing in their portfolio by their Culminating Big Picture Learning Exhibition at the end of their Senior year. There should be one piece incuded in their portfolio each quarter of each year they are enrolled at MBP.  

  • Their Autobiography must have ten(10) chapters done by their Culminating Big Picture Learning Exhibition Senior/Graduate level.  They should be written in this order: 

    Level 101 – 9th grade    Chapters 1 & 2 

    Level 201 – 10th grade  Chapters 3, 4, & 5

    Level 301 – 11th grade Chapters 6, 7, & 8

    Level 401 – 12th grade Chapters 9 & 10

     

  • Students must be able to demonstrate growth in mathematics using the ALEKS program each year they are enrolled.   

  • Students must have a Learning Plan for each exhibiton (3 per year) and reflections/updates which are finished after each exhibition. This will amount to twelve (12) learning plans by the time they are a senior. 

  • Students must be involved in Internships or some other form of off campus learning.  MBP has an off campus learning day (Wednesdays) for students to find ways to enhance their learning through internships, Interest opportunities or visits to places that connect to their desired field of study.  

  • Students must give three formal public displays of work each year they are enrolled at Big Picture. Twelve total.  Their final exhibition will be at a the finish of their senior year and it will be the Culminating Big Picture Learning Exhibition at the Senior/Graduate level. 

  • Students must do a minimum of three(3) independent or group projects each year which are connected to the vision and goals in the Learning Plan,.One of these projects each year should be school/community focused.

  • Students must be able to describe their growth and imporvement in ALL competency areas.

  • Student must participate in their Graduation Review Advisory Board.  

  • Washgton State requires that students must maintain their HSBP each year with the new program that is statewide.  Their Graduation Pathway must match their Learning Plan.

  • Personal Pathway Requirements:

    Three locally determined courses that lead to a specific post high school career outcome chosen by the student, based on the student’s interest and High School and Beyone Plan. The Pathways are as follows:

    Military Pathway:  Pass the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Barrery) with a score of at least 31. 

    Career & Technical Education (CTE) Pathway: Complete a course sequence in an area of interest

    ELA & Math Pathways: Students may use test scores from ACT, ACT w/writing, SAT,  IB, AP or SBA tests. Any Dual Credit Courses. Also any Bridge to College classes offered.
